WHO: The Museum Of Motherhood. M.O.M. is a living, breathing community-centered arts, media and social change museum focused on amplifying the voices and experiences of mothers, and connecting ‘the cultural family’, while pioneering new areas of academe in mother studies.

FEATURING: Performances by Guerilla Girls On Tour, Mother The Job – Exhibit and music by Double Breasted.

WHY: M.O.M. Pop-Up Exhibit is an arts-centered program connecting creativity and motherhood with the community at large for the purposes of engaging families in an exploration of the ‘Art Of Motherhood’ and the ‘Cultural Family’. Sept 1 – Dec. 30th 2011, empowered by Motherhood Foundation Inc. and Mamapalooza.

DESCRIPTION: ‘Mother the Job’ by artist Alexia Nye Jackson, is a multi-media exploration of integrated art forms including a film, sculpture, photography, domestic artifacts and original writings portraying the day-to-day life of the mother and her relationship with her child; raising questions regarding status quo, while exploring tensions within and between mothers, society and current economic forces. The exhibit facilitates people to construct their own reality while increasing the self-efficacy they feel within their motherhood identity, thus engaging the community and expanding the conversation regarding ‘human capital’, ‘cultural capital’ and economic valuation.
