Mamapalooza Celebrates Women, Moms, Families May 14

Great entertainment, women’s health and fitness, family life and green living will highlight the seventh annual Mamapalooza, a free music, arts and health festival Saturday, May 14, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Kensico Dam.

Kids Drum Circle

Voted the “Best in Girl Power Event 2009” by Westchester Magazine, Mamapalooza is a day of fun with free helpful information and plenty of activities and services to help empower women, mothers and families. There will also be shopping, fun for kids, foods to sample and purchase, and a farmers market. So, bring a chair and blanket and spend the day listening to some great musicians and learning how to make your life better.

Mamapalooza is presented in partnership with Westchester County Parks, along with local and national sponsors, to raise awareness for the Museum of Motherhood.

Admission and parking are free. The event will be held rain or shine.

Fun for everyone at Mamapalooza 2011Health and Fitness
Get geared up for the day’s events during a Walk Live Westchester exercise program with Heather Buyers that will kick off at 11 a.m. The Westchester County Office for Women and non-profit organizations will provide information on health, wellness and social services for women and families including help for victims of domestic violence. Pick up information about summer events and programs from Westchester County Parks and the county’s Office of Tourism.

Living Green
Vendors celebrate a holistic lifestyle of mind, body and spirit with information and booths selling natural cleaning products, soaps and holistic products, many from the Awaken Fairs.

Entertainment
Media partner 100.7 WHUD radio will be onsite. This year’s stage features Massachusetts Six; Dawn Drake and ZapOote world percussion; a musical performance by Armelle for kids; and exhibitions by Suburbia Roller Derby.

Women’s Marketplace
Shop the women-centered vendors offering everything from handmade jewelry and gifts, make-up and sunglasses to active wear fashions and tee shirts. Cash accepted only.

For Kids and Families
Kids and their families can also learn how to have fun as they get and stay fit with the county’s own Be Fit Mobile, a fitness center on wheels, which offers hula hoops, obstacle ladders and Frisbees to show everyone how to have fun as they work out. There’ll also be face painting and gymnastics.

Farmers Market
Bring your market bag and your appetite to shop a selection of locally grown produce, baked goods, cheeses and food products.

Food and Refreshments
Take your pick of several vendors offering salads, wraps, veggie burgers, rice and beans and gyros. The concession stand will also be open for sandwiches, pizza, burgers and hot dogs.

There will be free giveaways and raffles for prizes throughout the day.

Mamapalooza 2011 is presented to benefit the Motherhood Foundation, an organization that creates and presents visual, literary and performing arts events for mothers. Ideas In A Rough Economy!

I feel great!

On the one hand, while companies and individuals emerge from a year of economic obstacles and setbacks, as parks and communities cut back on their programming, etc., the economy groans and contracts trying to hedge a bet on the future, people everywhere wonder – what next?

I say, “Tie another knot in the rope and hang on”.

Each of us has access to unlimited energy, enthusiasm and ideas. All we have to do is open up our minds and hearts!

Ideas!

Ideas are wonderful. Liberating. Free. While some people say ideas are a ‘dime a dozen’, I like to celebrate each and every little precious offering the universe gives me. They keep me charged and keep me moving forward.

Sometimes I have to wait years for an idea to come to fruition, and sometimes my ideas prove to be absolutely silly. But, it was still free to think them. Empowering to explore them. Joyful to watch them come alive.

This year there’s a unique opportunity to highlight the one thing we’ve always loved best- Women-owned and Mom-branded products, projects and businesses. Our platform was created to make large-scale events with unique, empowering programming available to families. For many corporations and especially smaller businesses looking for events to have direct consumer engagement opportunities that have integrity and are affordable, it’s felt like Mamapalooza Festival to the rescue.

We’re marching steadily towards spring with a spring in our step for three reasons:

We have great team members, staff, volunteers, vendors and performers.

We remain committed to our goal of branding mom-entertainment, highlighting women-owned businesses and celebrating commmunity.

We have lot’s of great ideas all the time on how to grow, improve, expand, love. That’s why here at Mamapalooza, we ‘Shout Out Loud’.
